I see a folder on my C drive (at root level) labeled:
"e83b610b94412b38be".
It's only content is a subfolder labeled "Update"
whose only content is a file "Update.exe".

Is ths perchance a leftover windows update that did not
complete? Or is it a deadly virus?

Thanks for your advice!

Mark,

You are right about it being a leftover Windows Update
folder that didn't complete successfully. We get these a
lot at our site. Windows Update puts those temp folders
out there when it's getting ready to install updates. If
the Update completes successfully, it removes the folder
once installed.

I have seen as many as 3-4 of these folders on hard
drives of both servers and workstations at a time. I
usually delete them when I see them, figuring it gives
the server a clean install point the next time updates
are approved and installed. And as far as incomplete
installs, Windows Update should detect that it did not
complete and try to load the update again, at least that
has been my experience.

p.s. At times I find that these folders have no
permissions set on them at all and I have to Take
Ownership and grant myself Full Control before I can
delete them.
