A file named ~ (tilde) keeps showing up on my desktop and
in other placed on my computer. I've done searches and
deleted every occurance, but after a few days it re-
appears. Is this some virus my checker has missed?

Hi Jeff,

as Bruce says. You can also check out.

I've had similar occurences. In my case, it has been temporary save files
created whilst working with WORD. If you are working on a Word document, and
hit save: it creates a temporary file with a tilde reference.Normally, these
get saved into your default folder, i.e. My Documents. Occasionally!!, they
end up on my desktop.? It's only when you "save-as", and give the file a
name, do the temp files disappear. May not apply in your case, but could
help others?
