I stumbled upon an IP address that was active on my LAN. It shouldnt be
there, but I cant figure out what it is. NBTSTAT, ping -a cant rsolve it to
a name, it doesnt have an administrative share that I can access, It cant be
brought up in Manage, cant acces a local group policy. Now I'm really
suspicious. Anyone have any thoughts on how I can finger the device using
this address? I have though about giving another device the same address and
causing a conflict and see if anyone squauked but I would rather not tip my
hand yet.

what is the ip you are talking ab out?? we really cannot help unless you
tell us. If it is a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx then it is an windows box that thinks
it should have got DHCP addy but could not reach the server

Its a private subnet address on a windows box. It is a address that is
reserverd in DHCP but should not be in use.

its just part of a reserved block of addresses that I usae if I need a
static address. if it was one one of my routers or somethiong I would have a
record of it
