I've noticed others in ACF also use MyRealBox. They have been
dead for several days with no info even on the Novell site.
Any user know anything?

I know one thing: it isn't dead. I use it every day as my primary email
account.

Your problem lies elsewhere.

It's working fine for me at the moment, and I haven't had any outages in
the last week or so... the web site loads for me, too.

That's Myrealbox for you....

Working just fine here. Slow connections and temporary access problems are
normal with MyRealBox but I have *never* lost a single email. Can't say the
same thing for my ISP who just can't manage its email and newsgroups
servers...

I use it every day, and haven't seen this "dead" spell of which you
speak.

Except for the part about it *not* being dead for several days. I use
it every day (as do others, here), and I've not experienced this alleged
"dead" period. Sounds like a software issue. As for the site, I
wouldn't expect a blurb on the Novell site saying, "Hey, everything's
working fine."

I still use it every day too ( though not currently experiencing any
probs as per the OP ) - one of the best things ( the only thing? )
about the service is its forwarding and distribution facility, which
comes in handy for managing informal distribution lists for the
various bands I work with ( 'cos you can't rely on other people to
managed distribution lists from their own email client....if they even
have one ).

But compared with other email services such as those provided by GMX
and 'local' ISPs, I've found Myrealbox to be less than reliable (
particularly the web-based interface ). If it was up to par I'd use it
for all my email services, but I've had one-too-many evenings clicking
the POP3 error box in Pegasus ( even tried it with other clients too
in case it just didn't get on with Peg ) ... and like a kettle that
sometimes doesn't switch itself off on the boil, I never quite trust
it.
The German GMX service knocks it into a cocked hat, albeit with less
features ( and their rather strange decision not to host an English
version of the site..though that might perhaps be why it works! ).

If there was a Pricelessware award for 'freeware' services, I'm afraid
Myrealbox wouldn't get my vote.
That said - they do, or did, state that the service was a sort of beta
test for Novell ware.

It's been working fine for me the last week. Been getting mail
every day.

I know one thing: it isn't dead. I use it every day as my primary email
account.

Your problem lies elsewhere.

Thanks for confirmation from several users.

I toggled host off,
turned firewall off,
changed IE security to low for all zones,
ensured myrealbox was not listed in restricted zone,
added myrealbox to trusted zone,
temporarily removed the trusted storage for myrealbox
in the registry. The only entry shown for myrealbox.
Tried Agent, Magic Mail, and Scanmail for pop3 connection,
Tried IE and NetCaptor for contacting 192.108.102.201 [myrealbox.com],
Tried Ping to 192.108.102.201 and myrealbox.com
Used Google cache to get a copy of the sign-in page. After
signing in, the usual no DNS came up.
I re-booted after most of the above changes.

I got no response from anything. It is like they do not exist
but I have been using them for the past year. I normally have
no problem of this nature but I've got a plug in my system
somewhere.

I've over-looked something. Any ideas?

Have you tried the web interface?

I'm not totally clear, do you mean you cannot download the mail through
the web interface or through your email client?

I have not direct help, but can give kind-of "negative" info:

MyRealBox works for me.

I use Windows 98, no host (whatever that is), no firewall, connect with
dialup, no IE, no trusted or untrusted zones (whatever they are).

I usually get email by POP using Pegasus.

I'll try it now using a Web browser.
Works fine.

Perhaps ask in a Windows newsgroup? (what OS do you use)

I had the same thing happen to me once. Couldn't figure it out.

All I did was:
c:> IPCONFIG /release_all
c:> IPCONFIG /renew_all

(from DOS command prompt, of course. You could probably accomplish the
same thing using WINIPCFG.EXE)

I "lost" google.com once, too.

I'll be hornswoggled. I used Winipcfg and after a 1/2 minute
delay on the 'renewal_all', all is okay. My browser can now
find the site and my email program is now functioning.

I'm very much obliged to you. I've never used the winipcfg
function and it might have been along time before anyone else
picked up on that possible fix.

Again, thank you so much.

See my response to Terrence Chun, MD, for the solution.
It never happened to me before so it could happen to you!
