The mylar ribbon for the keyboard has a small piece missing and some of
the keys don't function.

Is there any way to repair the ribbon?

It's an old Compaq laptop and not worth the price of a replacement KB
(even if I could find one on eBay)

(Works fine with external KB)

Defroster repair kit ?

And such an approach is not likely to last.

Did you try Ebay, to see if keyboard or keyboard+ribbon
are available ?

With shipping I can get one on eBay for about ten bucks
but it's not worth it to me...
I'm just going to be giving the machine away to whoever wants it and let
them deal with it.

thanks

All fixed.

eBay purchase arrived today ...$6.44 including freight.

a five minute job

That's cheaper than trying to fix the old one.

I wish everything in life was that cheap to fix.

True, I got the laptop free so ...what the heck.

Guess I am too used to doing it for nothing.
