When I try to move a file from my USB Mybook external USB drive,
the operation fails...it never completes and not even the copy part
of the operation completes. I have to click cancel, and then when I
shut down Windows XP Pro, it doesn't want to shut down becasue it
finds that file operations are still being done. The only way I can
move a file from this drive successfully is to first COPY and then
after that, delete from original location. THis is wierd. Is this a
known bug with these drives?

There is a product review here.

You actually have to look pretty hard, to find prepackaged externals
that are worth the purchase price. There isn't even consistent results
with the same enclosure, but different capacity drives.

Based on the reviews I've read, I would sooner purchase my own enclosure,
and put one of the drives in that. As an example, I like an enclosure
to have a fan on it (especially if the fan is a standard size and type,
so I can replace it if it gets noisy).

Picture of AMS external enclosure, with fan in the base of the unit.
The fan probably cannot be replaced, but it is better than no fan at all.

It is amazing how stupid the design of some enclosures is. I bought
one a couple years ago - yes, it had a cooling fan. But they didn't
put any intake vents on it. So the fan could only swirl the air
locally near the fan itself. After a half hour with my trusty hand
drill, it ended up with a "Swiss cheese" hole pattern on the bottom
of the enclosure.

Actually I have two of these MyBook 500GB drives. I checked the other
one , and it has the same problem/failure with moving files. On this
MyBook, I have not seen it hang with progress bar never
completing...but it will just successfully copy one file in a folder,
when there are many more in it...and then nothing else happens with
the MOVE operation. You again must instead COPY and then DELETE.
