I recently ran a Disk Defrag on my XP Pro and it showed that a file
named MyBackup.qic could not be defragmented and it was in 455
fragments. This file was created on 16 Oct 2002 and modified on 14
June 2003 when I was running Windows 98SE. On the 26 June 2003 I had
an upgrade to XP. I have since defragmented the file by going into
safe mode to do the defrag but would like to delete the MyBackup file
if it is ok to do so. Am I correct in believing that deleting it would
not affect XP and it would be quite safe to do so?

I have recently installed Norton Systemworks 2003 and feel that
running the disk optimizer may have caused the fragmentation. Is it a
good idea to stick to the XP Disk Defrag and forget about the Norton
Speed Disk ?

The QIC file is the data for the backup program. If you delete it you will
not be able to restore the files that were backed up. Other than that there
is no problem in deleting it. If you think you might want to restore
something from that backup save the file on CDROM if you can do that before
deleting it.
