My XP home won't start

When trying to start up my laptop, it hangs up in a blue windows xp home
screen. The mouse moves around but the screen does not advance. I tried to
start it in safe mode but it doesn't work. Is there any other way to repair
this without losing my information on the hard disk??
Thanks,
Cesar

Hi Cesar,

Any idea what caused this? What were you last doing with the system before
the problem started?

I have had the same problem. I have tried to use safe mode and other options
after pressing F8 during the startup, but each time, my laptop reverts back
to the Windows blue login screen, with only the Windows Xp logo, no user
names, no "turn off computer" option, just the logo.

I am completely frustrated and don't know how to fix this, can anyone help?
The last thing I was doing before this happened was installing a file, it
said there were problems with the file, and I should contact my hardware
manufacturer.

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance
