Hi,

We have a SBS 2000 and today we had to reboot it. After the reboot it took
10 minutes for the system to restart and when I logged in as the
administrator, I realised that I can not see the list of user in the AD
(Small Business Admin.. Console). The error I am getting is that the Naming
information cannot be located because the requested service provider can not
be loaded or initialized.

In short the Domain can not be find itself. I can not re-install the server
since the mirrored drives are dynamic and the setup does not recognise them,
I can not re-run the SBS setup because it tell me that the Active Directory
can not be located.

Any idea?

More info - when you open AD Users and computers, can you see the containers
and OUs?

What is your event log telling you?

It sounds like you might have lost your dns service. Check your dns server
and see if it is resolving names.

Open up Event Viewer and check for errors.

Try running dcdiag. Look for fail, error and warning errors.

If you don't have the tools installed load them from your install disk.

d:\i386\adminpak.msi (Server tools for remote management of servers)
d:\support\tools\setup.exe (Server Utilities)

Copy the following to a cmd file and run look for error, fail and warn
within the reports. Post any errors you can't figure out. make sure you
modify DC_Name to the name of a dc in your domain.

@echo off

c:
cd \
cd "program files\support tools"

del c:\dcdiag.log
dcdiag /e /c /v /s:DC_Name /f:c:\dcdiag.log
start c:\dcdiag.log

No I can not see it. The event log shows a lot of services that can not
start. However the booting part take a long time once gets to PREPARE YOUR
NETWORK CONNECTION. I have already checked for the integrity of the AD and
compacted it even though it did database passed the integrity test, etc. But
still can not see the domain. What I have noticed is the Script file under
the Sysvol\domain name\ is missing.

Hi Paul,

Yes I think you are right, the log files says AN ERROR OCCURED DURING DNS
LOOKUP.

Would you by any chance know how to reinstall or fix the DNS as when I try
to going to the DNS under the Administrative tool it says that it can not
contact the DNS Server and the DOMAIN name is in red on the left panel.

Regards
