I have re-installed windows xp on my emachine 1090 about 4 or 5 times. I
just put disc 1 in and restart my pc and it usually just installs
itself. This disc came with the pc I bought originally. I have the panda
antivirus demo on and its up-to-date and the firewall is usually on, I
turned the firewall off and uninstalled the panda antivirus, put disc 1 in
and it boots to the login. The disc comes up and asks me which drivers I
want to install. I put disc 2 in and it does the same exact thing. I can see
the blue splash screen very very briefly when the pc boots up. Usually it
will not even get to the windows login it usually just re-installs itself. I
have ran the check disc tool, I have ran my defragment tool and my disc
clean up tool. I have went to start> run> typed in setup> put the path
d:\setup and hit ok and still i get the screen with driver installations on
it. I have even installed some of those drivers AGAIN to see if that helps.
Im at a loss. can anyone help me?
I presume you have a badly malfunctioning computer and you want to do a
clean install of WinXP. The whole setting up process is straight forward
and automatic. Once you put the installation/restore CD in the tray and
restart the machine, you simply follow the prompts on screen. Please read,
perhaps print it out, and follow the instructions exactly in this tutorial:
Windows XP Clean Install (Interactive Set Up)
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp
1/5 down the scrolled page, you should see the Step by Step instructions.
Any deviation in the behaviour of the machine from that described in the
tutorial suggests, at this setting up stage, hardware problems, in almost
all cases. There should not be any "asking you which driver you want to
install", rebooting at or just before the Welcome screen, etc.. Meddling
with firewall, anti-virus/spy software is completely unnecessary. If you
have followed the instructions exactly and you are still having
difficulties, post back. Check RAM, hard disc integrity/performance and the
motherboard in the first instance. The power supply unit and the fans too
need looking into. I wish you good luck.
