My windows firewall cannot be activated!

I have a problem activating my Windows Firewall on my connections. I am using
Microsoft XP Service Pack 1 and I have a Dsl Dial-up modem.
It uses two connections a LAN between my PC and the modem and a WAN between
the modem and its ISP
My problem is that when I try to activate the firewall on the LAN,
"An error occured while Internet Connection Sharig was being enabled. The
specified service does not exist as an installed service"
and when I try to activate the firewall on the WAN,
"Cannot enable shared access. Error 1060: The specified service does not
exist as an installed service"
