My whole system is tooo slow (win XP home)

There was once that my computer got in to trouble ( lost registry, virus, bla bla bla). It had cauz my computer to be super slow ( before it was super fast , i got 512mb ram, 30gb hardisk, Pentium 4 Mobile ). I can back up my stuffs, cauz to transfer a 1mb to the network, it takes about 10 minutes. I can backup my stuffs in cd (it takes the whole day to burn one cd).

The restart windows time is about 20 minutes ++ . thats terrible. After decided to lose all my work, i formatted the hardisk and reinstall windows XP home(twice)

Well, there was improvements, but still toooo slow. Restarting takes 10-20 minutes, and every program i open takes about 3-5 minutes. I can work like this anymore

Someone please tell me what is the problem and how to solve it

What is your CPU running at when you alt ctl del..?
