There are some strange missing items in the windows mail version I got with
my PC.

Where do I look to find out what my version is?

And where if possible can I get it updated?

Microsoft is incessantly updating my PC but never seems to query my version
of windows mail although it is obviously flawed.

Thanks, Roy.

According to your message headers, your WinMail version is:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Windows Mail 6.0.6002.18005
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.0.6002.18005

I /believe/ a fully patched version would read:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Windows Mail 6.0.6002.18005
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.1.7600.16385

Have you checked at Windows Updates? That's where you update everything
for Windows. Is Vista SP1 or SP2 installed?

Check there first and then tell us what is missing or flawed.

As with most any Windows program, you get the version number
by going to its Help, About...

Microsoft essentially abandoned Windows Mail since about July 2006,
so there will be no updates forthcoming. The replacement program
is Windows Live Mail:

My thanks to Gary & Bruce. I'll try the new Windows Live Mail version.
Much obliged, Roy.

Thanks to Guy and Bruce.

I have downloaded Windows Mail Live and installed it.

How do I activate it now? I presume it has to replace the old Windows Mail
in some way? Should I uninstall Windows Mail?

Thanks, Roy.
