my webcam

I just got a Hewlett-Packard Pavillion with Windows XP and I bought a webcam. The book says that it is compatible with windows xp but it while it loads it tells me that there is an unknown device in the usb port and i can't get it working. Help!!!!! somone! anyone!

I had a similar problem with webcam because i connected it to a usb hub instaed of directly into usb port
