Every time I try to run System Restore I get an error message saying that
the restore was unsuccessful because of an error. Try again with a
different date.

Any suggestions on how I can restore my System Restore?

I had this problem few days ago! Yesterday, I was able to run System
Restore successfully. But, it gets frozen and don't know if System
Restore is all needed to get things back!?

Sahem on MS indeed. This is clear defection OS problem and many people
have it to my suprise...

If you are running Norton Internet Security, turn off its application
protection until System Restore completes successfully.

Hi Larry:

Try it in Safe Mode.

Thanks for the replies. I suspect that Norton 360 is the culprit. I didn't
know how to "turn off" N360. I tried disabling the antivirus and the
firewall. That didn't work.

I have (had!) Norton Internet Security, so this might not apply to you.

In NIS, you go to Settings, then find the Miscellaneous button or tab. Look
for a setting to ... Oh hell, I can't remember. Hang on while I boot
another computer.

<Twiddle thumbs>

OK, I'm back. Under Settings | Miscellaneous Settings, in the area labeled
Product Security, turn off "Norton Product Tamper Protection".

Revert the setting after a successful System Restore.

This has worked for me many times, although often I remember only after a
failed first attempt at System Restore.

Since you have a different product, the exact sequence might be different
even if the setting exists, but the above should provide a clue, if we're
lucky.

Thanks for sticking on my case Gene. I did get a "successful system
restore" by disabling Norton 360... until after system restart.

Thanks to all for their suggestions.

Mr Bloch,

I have the same problem, tried multiple solutions for two days,
including those as Larry above. I followed your instructions, and
achieved a successful restore right off.

Mr Bloch, you represent the best of the internet, actually helping
strangers have a better day.

Thank You,

Rob

Here's an interesting fact for you and Larry: IIRC, I learned about this
solution form newsgroups, so it's only fair that I pass the info along.

Although I don't recall exactly where I leaned about Norton's self
protection, I *do* know that I have learned many solutions to other
problems of my own on these NGs.

What does IIRC stand for and how can I get to it? Thanks Larry

I'm not Gene, but I'll answer your question. "IIRC" stands for "If I
remember correctly."

It's not someplace you want to get to. <g>

IIRC = If I Recall (or Remember) Correctly

Thanks, Ken & Dave, for covering for me. I was in an alternate universe for
over a week.

I.e., I was visiting family & had no Usenet access :-)
