ABIT IS7 motherboard - $94.99
Pentium 4/ 2.8C GHz 800MHz retail box - $187.00-
Crucial 184 Pin 256MB DDR PC-3200 (2 sticks- P/N CT3264Z40B) - $92.00
Antec True380 PSU - $60.00

That's $433.99 plus a little shipping

Putting this into an Antec SX1030 case
------------------------------------------------
Not a gamer
No overclocking desires or skills
Need to render lots of video from one format to another
Need to manipulate graphic files (Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro)
------------------------------------------------
Case now holds:
Gigabyte GA-60XE motherboard
Pentium 3/ 1.0 GHz 133MHz
512MB PC133 memory
Antec PP300X PSU
-----------------------------------------------
Is my upgrade reasonable? Overkill? Waste of time & money?

Any ideas on the "sweet spot" for P4's? (price/performance)

Thank you for any of your thoughts on this,
Jim

"lots of video" means lots of waiting.
The accepted answer is that serious video editing runs on RAM.
Certainly the 2.8/DDR will run faster than the 1.0/133 but you might
want to keep more ram in the back of your mind.....
Or, if you're ditching the old system, part it out on Ebay and use
the return for 2 more sticks of 3200 (assuming the MB has 4 slots).
