My system is invisible to my network

I'm running a Windows 2000 system behind a firewall in a
work environment. I used to be able to VPN from home and
connect to my work computer using pcAnywhere. Recently, I
discovered I can still VPN in, I see other computers in my
computer's domain, but I can't see mine. It doesn't
respond to ping and I am unable to connect to it with
pcAnywhere even though the software is running in host
mode on my computer.

I cannot recall anything that might have happened between
the time it last worked okay and when I first noticed the
problem. I can't remember any software installs being
done. I've run Norton Antivirus and Spybot scans, but
the've picked up nothing.

I am not running any firewall software on my system. I've
rebooted my system several times, but to no avail.

Any suggestions or help?

Thank you.

Let me add that I've also booted into safe mode with
networking and tried pinging my system IP address from
another computer in my domain. But same as before, my
system doesn't respond to ping at all.

Can you ping other machines from the problem machine?

Hello,

When you state that you can not see your computer on your network, are you
talking about via "My network Places" or browsing?

If so, browsing is always based off of WINS and/or broadcasts. Do you have
a WINS server in place and is there a reservation in the WINS database for
your client computer.
If when connected, when you perform an IPconfig /all, do you get a WINS
address?

I found the problem. It -was- something that I installed,
but had been unaware of.

I installed updates for AT&T's Global Network Client. If
I had been a bit more attentive at the time, I would have
been aware the updates included a new firewall, the AT&T
Global Network Firewall.

This was blocking ping responses from my system and
blocking access to my system by pcAnywhere. Once I
disabled the AT&T Global Network Firewall, all was well.

Hello,

This may provide more insight.
