I went to insert a symbol and that choice is no longer in
my "insert" menu --- help - where did it go? how do I get
it back.
thanks.

For the procedure to restore the command to the menu, see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Customization/AsgnCmdOrMacroToToolbar.htm. In
the Tools > Customize dialog, the command you want is "Symbol..." in the
Insert category.

As for how it disappeared, it's possible that you accidentally pressed
Alt+Ctrl+Hyphen (the "remove menu command" shortcut) and then clicked Insert
description of this nice little shoot-yourself-in-the-foot command.

THANKS A MILLION. (I better watch those keyboard
shortcuts in the future....)
