In fact I hear the sound but the microphone doesn't work,
its output is very bad and missing - the same microphone
when connected to another PC works fine. I also have updated
the driver (the board is a Creative Soundblaster PCI64V) but
the result is the same. Now I'm asking if there is some test
utility in order to be sure that the malfunction is in the
board itself - I already had a look in Creative's site but I
didn't found

Is the system running windows?

If so, open the audio mixer and see if the "Microphone Boost" is
enabled. This setting may not be visable until you click-though
several sub-menus on the recording settings, and maybe click an
"advanced" button. While you have the mixer open you might leave it
open and adjust the microphone volume slider while testing it.

Is it possible that the microphone cord is damaged? Have you tried
holding each end of the cord in different angles to see if it helps?

thank you for your suggestion there is some improvement but
the problem still exist - don't you know of some test
utility for the board?
