my sound went out

Any suggestions on how I can restore my sound in my HP
Pavilion? I went to control panel and the volume bar on
the sound won't slide over from low to higher.Their is now
yellow ?? in the sound device manager.

Go into the device manager and delete the yellow (errored
device) Reboot the computer and see if it will redetect
your sound card.
