hey all,

i have xp pro with iis installed, broadband, and my router. can someone
please tell me some tips or point of reference on getting my web server
opened to the internet but keep my LAN safe at the same time?

Is it all in my router at this point?

thanks,
ari

what is needed depends on several factors
1) the router manufacturer & model number
2) does your dsl provider force you to use NAT(mine does and I have to clear
2 routers not just one)
3)what port(s) are required(this will be comon to all routers/firewalls)
4)the nature of any perimiter firewalls, machine firewalls

in other words we will need much more information than you have provided.

If the web server is on another computer then port forward port 80 http to
it and disable file and print sharing and Client for Microsoft networks on
it if it is Windows operating system or disable SMB client/server on it if
it is not assuming you have not need to access shares on it. You can also
configure the Windows Firewall on your other computers to not include it's
IP address in the exception list. --- Steve
