Try this: click 'Start' - if see Recycle Bin on main menu, rightclick it -
go to Send... click 'Desktop(create shortcut)'.
Or... click 'Start' - accessories - system tools - system restore - then
restore your systen to a date when you know you had the Recycle Bin icon on
the desktop.

Ramesh, I had not seen a map of the earthquake area. I had just heard some
real short radio news stories. Sounds like most of the problems were in
Pakistan.

Thanks Herbert, but neither solution worked. Restore said no changes had been
made at the earliest. restore date. clicking start did not show my recycle
icon. I tried the link provided by Ramesh, but the options I was advised to
click were not available.. Does anyone have any other suggestions to remedy
this problem? Thanks

There are several ways to hide (and unhide) the Recycle Bin.
Install TweakUI and run it. Click the Desktop section.
Put a checkmark near the "Recycle bin" check box.
Click OK
