My processor is always maxed out by SVCHOST

My processor is always maxed out and system performance seriously impacted. In Taskmanager I find one instance

is always using most of the processor power. My usage measures 100% at all times. If I stop this instance of

SVCHOST I initiate an NT auto shutdown (60 seconds warning).

The services running under this instance (currently) are EventSystem, helpsvc, Netman, RasMan, SENS, TapiSrv,

Themes, uploadmgr, W32time and winmgmt.

Any ideas what is wrong and/or how to fix it?

I fixed my problem simply by reinstalling XP. Have no idea what was wrong although PROCESSEXPLORER seemed to indicate that the "file" \Device\NamedPipe\net\NiControlPipe2 may have been part of the problem.
