My printer wont print!!

I have a HP deskjet 656c!! everything worked fine and all of a sudden my whole computer went haywire!! i lost most icons on my start menu!! and now my printer wont work!! I tried to reinstall it..that works..but it still wont print!! I have tried to manually install it!That doesnt work either!! it seems that when i turn the printer on it doesnt register!! and when i try to print a test page it says that it needs to troubleshoot!! but when i try to troubleshoot!! this message comes up!!

Do you have system Restore turned on? If so, navigate to Start All
Programs accessories System Tools System Restore Restore my
system to an earlier time. Pick a date previous to the problem. Follow
on-screen prompts.

I have tried restoring my computer right after the icons on the start menu disappeared and it didnt work!!and My start menu no longer has the option to use system tools!!! so.........
