What is "the .NET way" of storing an apps preferences ? Registry, XML or
INI? (What component/class to use?)

Are there logfilecomponents in the framework?

Everything I've been reading says that you should stay away from the registry. If it's a shared preference then store it in the app.config, if it's a user specific setting then use isolated storage. http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnadvnet/html/vbnet07082003.asp this is a very good class for saving to isolated storage or registry.
