Lately operations in "My PIctures" folder have become very sluggish. It used
to take about one second to save a picture from a web site or an e-mail
message and it takes now about twenty seconds! Movement of images within "my
pictures" has also slowed down considerably and very often I get the message
"My pictures is not responding".
Can an one help me in bringing back "My PIctures" to its original agility?

Have you installed any new software or updates?

If this is a recent development...it may be worth a
try to do a system restore to a time before it began.

Thanks John. I tried system restore when the problem first appeared but it
didn't correct the problem.

So back to the question...

Have you installed any new software or updates?
Virus programs? Image editing software?

None of that John, excepting whatever automatic updates may have come in
from Microsoft or Windows.

Do you happen to have Adobe PhotoShop or
Elements installed?

If you do...right click on a .jpg file and choose
Properties. Click the Photoshop Image tab
and uncheck the "Generate Thumbnails" button,
then click OK.

And...maybe some maintenance would help:

Running Disk Cleanup, Error Checking and

(check the two boxes..."Automatically fix file

I have neither Adobe Photoshp nor Elements in my computer. The maintenance
steps you indicate, plus others, I perform regularly once a month.
Thanks for you goodwill,
Frank

Try the following steps and see if you
find anything:

Click on Start and Search and then:
All files and folders
More advanced options
Search system folders
Search hidden files and folders
Search subfolders

In the top textbox "All or part..."
type in exactly this OLK*
and click search

This search will take a while but should
return all folders starting with OLK.

Open the folders, select the files and delete.
They will go to your Recycle bin, delete them
from there also. Or, hold the Shift key down
when you delete them in order to prevent them
from going into your Recycle bin.
