Hi Dustin,
Try this:
- Log on as a user in the Administrators group
- Right-click "My Pictures" > click Properties > in the Attributes section select
"Read-only". Choose "Apply changes to this folder only".
- F5 to refresh Explorer. If the icon for "My Pictures" is still missing:
- Change your Explorer view settings as follows, using Control Panel > Folder Options
View [tab]: Select: "Show hidden files and folders". Uncheck: "Hide file
extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files
(Recommended)".
- Navigate to the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\My Documents\My Pictures
- Copy the file named desktop.ini to the "My Pictures" folder that "looks like a
normal folder". F5 to refresh Explorer.
BTW, what makes you think that the MSN Messenger install if failing because of this?

: MSN Messenger 6.0 is failing to install because it looks
: as if the My Pictures folder in the user profile is no
: longer being recognised as a "special" folder (it just
: looks like a normal folder - not having the different icon
: which it should do).
:
: Does anyone know how to reinstate this? I would think
: there should be a registry entry somewhere.

: Thanks
