My Pictures continuously copies to Desktop

I moved some photos into a new folder in My Pictures, and suddenly they
started copying to the desktop. As fast as I can delete the pictures, new
copies spring up. I am up to "Copy 15...." and counting. What happened, how
do I stop this monster?

Sounds like your mouse drag/drop went bad.
Turn off the computer.
