Greetings,

Spyware complains about a toolbar app that I wrote for IE
(need to click allow in order to run it).
This app also pops in the advanced options of spyware as
being unknown. Let me mention here that my app is digitally
signed from a proper CA.

I installed Yahoo Toolbar and it all goes well. Spyware
seems to be ok with this toolbar. It pops windos warning
about it but it also shows this green windows saying that
it is ok.

Additionally... Yahoo's DLL is NOT digitally signed.

What's the difference here?

Thanks.

what you mentioned here is priceless.
maybe ms antispyware engine scans additional toolbars in
IE as let's say "generic" spyware toolbars
yahoo's,google's and msn's toolbar are widely spread and
known that do not contain any kind of spyware (not to
mention that they have popup blocking and anti-spyware
features)
you said it asks for your permission. i haven't really
tested the antispyware thoroughly but it should have
something like a "remember this" feature that
automatically answers this allow/stop popup question. if
not then suggest it to the team (i'm not part of it)

Savvas,

My apologies if I wasn't clear. It does give me the option
to allow it. From that point on it doesn't bother me anymore.

The issue here is what do I tell my customers? I found this
site spynet.com where we can ask for our app to be added to
spyware's list.
How on earth is this going to be managed? Every time there
is a new build of the app we need to "register" it?

The purpose of signcode is to at least create a track
record of who is doing what. If this is not enough anymore
where will the buck stop?

Tkx

Spynet.com is the right place.

The vendor dispute form is presently the right way to address this issue.
There may be a different route in the long term, but for now, that's the
right way to start.
