I'd like to know who keeps deleting my postings. I put out a request on
1/22 about my old scanner. Now, the only thing left is the snide-sounding
response that had been linked to what I wrote. that could be considered
insulting.

A response here would definitely be appreciated.

Your ISP regularly deletes posts from their server that are older than a
certain number of days; policy varies with ISP.

ISP = Internet Service Provider.

Paul - Your old post still exists on this MS newsgroup on MS's NG servers.

I looked at it & googled for "FB435 Kit" (with quotes as shown) and got
one hit. It's a PDF file that contains text and some clickable webrefs
that may help you.

Two observations:
- you're not the first here to be puzzled and annoyed by apparent
posting disappearances, and Wolf explained them nicely. There's nobody
'out to get you!'
- Google is a really great resource for all kinds of hunting.

Good luck with that old scanner. They're dicey devices. :-)

Dan,

Those webrefs that you mention in the FB4.pdf page through Google are mostly
just sales pitches to try-and-buy various software packages that have
nothing to do with what I need. I don't mean to sound negative toward you
but I had already seen them.

BTW, what's an "NG server?" I never heard of that.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Paul - NG = newsgroup. Microsoft has a bunch of servers handling traffic
on these newsgroups. Sorry I wasn't clearer. No offense taken at all.

It's fairly common for people in trouble here not to realize how helpful
Google can be; I just try to cover the bases.

I've had to face the reality several times over the years as I moved to
successively newer systems that device manufacturers just don't update
drivers on older devices to meet new more stringent or just different OS
driver interfaces. The scanners I've had are a particular case in point.
The manufacturers probably feel that updating drivers just undercuts
sales. There isn't much you can do about it, either - unless you find
some kid in Yugoslavia has written one, or you do it yourself which is
altogether too timeconsuming.

But good luck. If nobody else in this "NG" has responded, that's a
pretty good sign nobody else can help...it's a very active and helpful
milieu in general.

It's the computer + hard drive array at your ISP that handles the newsgroups
provided by your ISP.

Nobody is specifically deleting your postings. The newsgroup servers
which provide the underpinning infrastructure for these groups impose
expiry times. Your message will have been culled along with millions
of others posted at around the same time as yours.

If you wish to see the complete thread with your posting and all the
replies you can check the archive at Google Groups.

If there are no replies it is likely that nobody who reads this group
was able to answer your question or, possibly, could be bothered to.
