I have a home network that has worked fine until
recently. Now when I try to connect one of my PCs it just
doesn't see the network. I am running Wingate on this
particular PC and it has XP while the server has Win98 but
as I said it worked fine until I downloaded the XP updates
and now it wont connect to the network. I get this
message on Wingate. "There was a problem connecting.
SOCKET ERROR: Remote Network down." How can I get my
connection back.

ME TOO! My home network was just fine until this latest
batch of XP security updates. Now, my WIN98SE boxers can't
see my XP boxes at all. My XP boxes "see" the Win98SE box,
but I get a message that I'm not authorizied to connect to
this computer, see the network admninistrator. I AM THE
NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR! If anyone can help, please post.

I had a similar problem - on my my home LAN, the XP box (but no other)
started acting VERY weird on the network.
The symptoms were bizarre - it did DHCP fine from my router, could resolve
names etc. but couldn't make any IP connection - not even a "ping" across
the room.

I solved the problem by uninstalling hot-fixes like crazy, ignoring the dire
warnings - I'm not sure exactly which one did it, but it was in the 823XXX
range.

Needless to say I have now turned automatic updates OFF !!!!!

Hope this helps.

make sure no firewall running on the LAN connection.
