Some times it takes quite a while to format, but a hour and a half on 0%?! even my computer whould have had like 50% or something. hmm.. that doesnt sound good, your CD drive was working right? just checking.

yes it working fine - just took it out old system and put it in today

also it fot P4 3.4 and asus P4800e - deluxe and 120 stat harddrive, pc3200 2x512

tried pulling my hair out - but remembered i'd shave it last week

should have been on a very high percentage if not DONE at an hour and a half!!

using the right SATA drivers for your mobo right? the ones on floppy disk...

I never had to use a floppy disk. Then again i didnt have a Floppy drive!

Right, Well make sure the bios is set to load from the CD-ROM (Where i'm guessing your windows xp disc is) first.

So First Boot device - CDROM
Second Boot Device - HD

Try going throught the menu's again to reinstall.

SATA Cables are VERY sensitive and you really should be aiming to not bend any part of the cable more than 90%. - If you have already then use a replacement cable.

I have never had any problems bending SATA cables to any degree !?

You should probably need to hit F6 to install a third party driver when entering the windows installation with a SATA drive but if it wasnt working, you wouldnt have gotten to the formatting screen in the first place. Wouldnt have detected your drive at all.

hmm

thax guys - it worked the first time cos there was nothing on the hd - but when i changed it to boot from cd first that worked

thax alot
