I can not select my Networking Tab since I installed some
MS HOTFIXES for Win 2000 - I think It may have been the
Service Pack 4 fix. I really need to get into this tab to
change my network and comunicate w/ other machines. Short
of a reinstall, what can I do to get this functionality
back. Yes I have admin rights to the machine.

Hi Brock,

Can you please be a little more specific about this tab you are seeking? I am not familiar with
one call my networking tab. Please tell me how you are getting to the place where is should
be? And if you are using Windows 2000 Pro or Server?

Thanks,
Gary

Start
Network & Dial Up Connections
On that page there is a link
"network identification"
There is a tab that sez NETWORK ID - this should be
clickable. On some of my computers I can do this and some
I can not.
I think this is because I installed SP4 twice although I
am not sure. I am in the process of double checking this.

Hi Brock,

Some of the systems may be upgrades and some may be clean installs. Or there may have
been some other issues. On a machine where the netork id tab is greyed out, try this:

Go to the NETWORK PROPERTIES of the adapter
Uncheck and Uninstall all the SERVICES and PROTOCOLS (Client for Microsoft
Servers, TCP/IP Etc.)
Restart
Re-check and re-install the SERVICES and PROTOCOLS
The "NETWORK ID"/DOMIAN-WORKGROUP->"CHANGE" and the Tabs should now work.

Hope this helps,
Gary
