Some of my shared folders wont appear in My Network Places. I right click on
the folder, check share folder and allow other users to change content, and
click apply and ok. The folder will then have the hand underneath it to show
its sharing, but it wont appear in My Network Places. I have tried renaming
the folder, but that isn't working. This happens every once in a while to
folders that have been shared for a long time, and then all of the sudden
they wont appear in MNP, and i'll rename them, and they will begin sharing
again. But this isn't working now. Any clue on how to resolve this?

In My Network Places, you can click "Add a network place", browse to
the missing folder, and add it manually.

Network browsing and access through My Network Places is inherently
unreliable, as you can see from the thousands of messages about it in
this news group. You can spend a lot of time troubleshooting and
trying to fix it, but I don't think it's worthwhile.

I recommend not using My Network Places at all. To access a shared
folder, type its computer name and share name in the Start | Run box
in this format:

\\computer\share

To see all of the shared folders on a computer, type:

\\computer

I don't know how to rate a post, but the \\computer\share works perfectly.
This was a great response. Thanks Steve.

You're welcome. You can also create a desktop shortcut to a
particular computer or shared folder, and use that shortcut to access
it. Right-click the desktop, click New | Shortcut, and specify the
location of the item as "\\computer" or "\\computer\share".
