We are running Windows 2003 Standard Edition server. Is there a way to
disable someone from browsing by using My Network Places icon?

Thanks.

I would use Group policies to do this, either a domain policy or a
local group policy. Looks like to me your wanting this on the specific
server. Go to Start, Run and type gpedit.msc and navigate to User
Configuration\Administrative Templates\Desktop and enable option to
"Hide My Network Places icon on the desktop"

Thanks for your prompt response. You are correct. I just want to disable
My Network Places icon on specific server.

One more thing: If I hide My Network Places icon, can I still go to
gpedit.msc to unhide it? Thanks.

You bet. If you undo it drop out to a dos prompt and type "gpupdate
/force" for a quicker response on the icon returning.

I was just thinking. Instead of hiding the My Network Places icon, what if
I remove the WINS entry under Start, Settings, Network Connections, Local
Area Connection. Then, select Properties, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). My
intention is I don't want the outside consultant to browse the network by
using the My Network Places icon. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

I dont think that will work the way you want it to, but you can give it
a try. This is a hard situation. No matter what the user, if they
know specific addresses, will be able to use the Start, Run feature and
connect. I would nose around in Group policies and lock down what you
can. Remember that every setting you change in Group Policy changes
everyone that uses that server.

Take care
