my network places

When we click on my network places and on a workgroup
name, sometimes we see all of the computers in that
workgroup, and sometimes we only see a few of the
computers. We have detected no pattern as to when we can
see all of them and when we can only see a few of them.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Name Resolution. Read up on how the different O/Ss deal with name
resolution.
Broadcast, WINS and DNS. If your system has no set method for Name
Resolution (i.e. DNS or WINS) then it is using BROADCAST. Which can be very
sporadic as well as a load on your network
