My Network Places - Unable to browse the network

Something has broken on a Win2000 workstation. Looks like a netlogon service
error as none LAN machines can be accessed using \\computername convention
including \\localhost. Eventlog gives MRxSmb 3034 error with
STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS (C000005E) NT status. Our domain server and all
remaining network services are working properly, e.g. Internet, Mail, no
problems logging into the machine under domain account. Which procedure can
be used to debug the logon service?
 
*net use* command prints the following output:
"System error 1222 has occurred.
The network is not present or not started."
