My Network place - shows nothing

I have three computers on a network. One 98, 2-xp home. The 98 and one of
the xp's see each other.

The third xp home did show some shares in the My Network Places, but did
work, so I deleted them.

I tried running the wizard to re-setup everything but it still does not see
anything.

It gets on the internet with the others and I can ping the other computers.

I did a system resore back to when I could see them, but I still get
nothing.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Are you able the access the other computers using \\Ip Address in the RUN box?

Hi Sac,

A few things to check here.

1) Is the machine that is not seeing anything on the same workgroup as the
other two machines? (Right click My Computer - Properties - Computer Name
tab)

2) Is the firewall turned on for this 3rd computer?
(Right click My Network Places - Properties. Right click your LAN
connection and select Properties. Click on the Advanced Tab. If the box is
checked, uncheck it.)

3) Is the network crawler turned on for this 3rd computer? (Click Start -
Control Panel. Click Tools - Folder Options. Click the View tab. Make
sure the box is checked for "Automatically search for network folders and
printers.)

4) Is the workstation service running. (Start - Run - services.msc Scroll
down to the Workstation service and make sure it says "Started")

After you have gone through these steps, close and reopen My Network Places
and let it begin crawling. (Everytime you open My Network Places, it kicks
off the Crawler. Also, it doesn't matter how many windows you open, only
once instance of it will run.) Another thing to keep in mind, is any share
that you manually deleted from My Network Places that was detected by the
network crawler will not be picked up again. The only way for it to
redetect them is to go into the registry and delete the registry keys. Here
are the instructions for doing that.

WARNING! Be careful when using the registry editor. If you do not
understand how to use it or feel comfortable using it, please do not
continue.

Start -> Run -> regedit
Navigate in the tree to: My Computer - >
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Workgr
oupCrawler\Shares
Under this key there will be a key for each share that has been listed in My
Network Places.
Delete the keys of the machines you want it to find again when you open My
Network Places (and those shares are available on the network) and it should
retect them.

Hope this helps!

Thanks.

This might help.

Open the Network Connections folder.
Right click the local area network connection and click Properties.
Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Click Advanced.
Click WINS.
Click the Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP button.

In editing the registry, I have a NetworkCrawler under Explorer, but I don't
have WorkgroupCrawler.

It has only a single key: CLSID.

Is this what I delete?

Thanks.

No, then that means you have no shares that have been created on this
computer.

Did any of the other things fix the issue?

Thanks.
