My mouse is not recognized

I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite A15-S157

I don't know what happened. I've checked every possibility, i.e. delete and
reinstall usb,etc. I can get my digital camera recognized on one usb port,
but not both. My mice are functional, I've checked them on other computers,
also running XP. I really hate using the touchpad! I've tried everything
except wiping the hard drive and I really don't want to do that.
