My mic don't work!

I have a mic plugged in to my laptop, i open up sound reccorder, and shout in to it, it will only faintly pick it up, but it will play back just "fuzz"


what is wrong, mic works fine by the way!

two things here does your sound work on your laptop as per normal?

also, then control panel>>>>>>>>>sounds and audio devices >>>>>>>>>>>advanced>>>then click on options then properties then check box your MIC box. now go back to the last screen locate your mic volume click on advanced and click on mic boost (20db) or then record and hear your playback.

keep going to the mic volume and messing around with the settings to see which one works good for your recordings!

I had a problem with Headset/mic with my old computer, then i got a new computer with XP pro which automatically configured my settings so my head set worked. So i did never find out why it didnt work on my old computer.... i have a feeling that did not help what so ever.

You got that bit right! - Sorry!

Do i need drivers, no mic's work on this PC. i had the same problem with another laptop...

im sure u dont need any drivers for your mic. okay got another idea. do u have your sound d rivers for your laptop on a cd? how about unistalling the sound drivers and reinstalling them?

give it a go but ONLY if you have the drivers on a cd, sometimes its a bit dodgy trying to search for the drivers on the intenet.

then i think u should try another input device on your laptop. could u try another microphone
or prehaps connect a mini-hifi with the right cables and try recording off of the radio, to see if this works properly

let us know your findings!

No, i don't, i was up at that time, because my damn alarm went off! - i forgot to turn it off for the weekend!

I will try what you said - i don't have the drivers on CD, but i will get them from Dell's website!

Then i will try some other input - no other mic's work on this PC
 
PSD, i was playing about with the settings, there was one saying "select" so i checked it, now it works!

funny! - i'm not recording, the server in my sig has accepted me as a member, there is a chat thing to talk between members. it is very hard to join!
