Ive have a custom built pc with XP as of june 2005, but all of a sudden this
month, my printer stopped printing after that, communication error messages.
Never had any problem before, nothing removed or added. I reinstalled the
drivers I initially had from brother.com website, still not working. Ive
tried everything. Also, accidently downloaded a Win95 addprinter driver for
brother (wasnt paying attn!), the executable opened it up using a DOS window,
but now I cant even delete that file, saying in use by other program, but I
dont know which one. I even uninstalled all my printers (I have an epson
inkjet, and the brother mfc8500), still cant delete that file or get my MFC
to work. Anyone have any suggestions?

thank you Cari. Ive tried all those options, uninstalled every printer I had
on the printer windows, even went to print server properties and removed
drivers from there. WinXP doesnt even recognize my MFC as hardware being
plugged. could a a Win automatic update/hotfix have created this problem?
It always worked fine until last month.

Yes, all ports are working just fine. I even thought maybe the parallel port
was unseated inside, but when I plugged the cable into the other printer to
test it, worked. I emailed brother.com support, I think the software
download for the MFC8500 is missing an inf file. when Im trying to install
the printer the way they say to, it halts at a window where it tell you to
plug in cable, and sits there, I never see a "next" option dialog appear,
even let it sit for over 2 hours, hoping. I have a screaming fast PC built
by an Civilian Army IT Supervisor, but he's in Korea right now and cant help.
Thanks for replying again ;)
