My machine restarts itself for no reason. Just out of the
blue it just restarts. I've updated the latest XP HOme
edition service packs.

Is this system plugged into a LAN? Or perhaps you are using a
broadband modem plugged into a NIC?

Check your BIOS for a Wake on Lan entry and disable it, then reboot.
If this problem goes away when you shut down after that, you've found
the culprit.

Incidentally, this problem has nothing to do with XP. It's something
that you computer BIOS does long before XP starts loading.

Depends what the OP meant by 'restarts'. Your explanation is correct if
they meant 'starts when the machine was powered off', but the more
normal meaning is 'I was halfway through something and the machine
decided to reboot' .. that's usually provoked by a blue-screen crash
from a driver, combined with 'restart after failure' set in computer
properties, advanced, startup & recovery. It can also be causes by
hardware problems (failing PSU, bad memory, etc.).
