My link bar buttons show as text on the web. Anyone know why?

I am using Fp 2003 and the server extensions are supposed to be up to date.
Why won't the buttons (Microsoft buttons) show as buttons?

Which buttons and is the remote server running the FP2002 extensions?

I had the same problem, actually when I use the preview page within
frontpage using the preview in microsoft internet explorer button, the
problem still exist, all the link bar button will show as underline
text only (hyperlink) no button or graphics
The other day the problem also happened when on the published site but
after few trials the published site got corrected but the local site
still has the problen in the view mode.

Do you mean those "hover" buttons (or "interactive" buttons as they're
called in FP2003)?

They use Java - which is not included in XP. Download from Sun System's web
site.

In any case, the server extensions aren't needed for them. They work on a
client-side system (relies on the user having Java on their system to make
the java applets work).

Have you applied a theme to your web?

No Theme nor the hover buttons, it is link bar buttons, I even tried
to change the link bar to differnt style but the problem exist

To have certain style available for the link bars, you must apply a theme.

I Apologize, for diverting the attention from the original question
posted by Davie Leigh but I believe he is having the same problem that
I have.

Going back to theme & link bar, I always used link bar only without
theme see www.yacu.com however after your message of today, I tried to
play with themes and customize them, still had a problem with link
bar, as you can see I ariginally used two link bar styles on my web (
horizontal & vertical) while using theme it show both on the design
view but again it will change the horizontal to same style as vertical
in the preview in internet explorer button? Any idea what I am doing
wrong? I just noticed other good features in the theme but what do I
need to set up in the theme to achieve exactly what you see on my web
site now? Two different horizontal & vertical link bars?

Thanks in advance.

Can you post and provide a link to a page that show this problem?

The problem now is with my local site not the published one, it only
happened once on the published site therefore I am afraid it will
happen again which is exactly what the original posting was about, for
example, on the design view everything looks fine, but when I use
preview in Microsoft internet explorer the vertical link bar will
switch from Buttons to underline text (Hyperlinks).

Can you publish it to your domain as a subweb / subsite?

File Menu | Publish Web / Site and enter the URL as:
http://www.yourdomain.com/subweb

Interactive Buttons are NOT Hover buttons.
Hover buttons use Java
Interactive Buttons use JavaScript

I already have one password protected subweb on my web site, can I
creat another subweb? say subweb2?

You should be able to create a unlimited number of subwebs, unless you host has to create them for
you.

Ok, I just published new subweb and ir does show the problem we are
facing with link bar, see http://www.yacu.com/subweb2/
and copare with the correct link bar shown on the main web please help
solving this problem as I can no longer update my web fearing that the
link bar will be messed up again like the on on the subweb2
Again, on the design view I see the link bar graphics but when viewing
or publishing, it disappear.
Thanks

You should be able to create a unlimited number of subwebs, unless
you host has to create them for

"The requested URL /subweb2/_themes/Studio/ was not found on this server."

This message was received from www.yacu.com when trying to load the Studio
_theme folder. I also checked for studio with same result.

It appears that the theme (studio) you are using has not been uploaded.

You are publishing in FrontPage HTTP mode?

Are you saving and closing all pages before publishing? If not, it may be
that the _theme is not being generated in the _themes folder before
publishing.

You could try opening the live web and re-inserting the Link bar. (I tested
live - see http://www.rxs-enterprises.com/tests/pages/theme_test.htm )

And while you are at it, remove the illegal characters (&) from your file names like in
about_us_&_feedback.htm and directories_&_maps.htm

I did not use the theme, I just inserted link bars.
If I use the theme, the problem get solved but I face another problem
which is the horizontal link bar at the bottom of the page will also
change to the studio style buttons, I tried to customize the Studio
theme but could not successed, I could either get both being Studio
style buttons or the Horizonal bar will complete disappear? Any idea
what is happening here?

You inserted a link bar in the Left border and chose to use the Studio theme
for the links. Without a theme, the link bar will display as text. To see
the buttons, the theme must be published as part of the web using
FrontPage's HTML publish mode.

To stop the bottom border displaying as graphics, right click the link bar,
then choose Link bar properties, then the Style tag. Either choose "Use
page's theme" or scroll down to the end and pick a text layout. With no
theme set for the pages, "Use page's theme" will use a text format.
