we cannot help if you hide the name and exact model of the computer and what
it's specs are.
If the Function Keys do not work, then it's likely they miss drivers.
Laptops are very fragile and specialized products. If only one minor device
is not fully working or has no drivers, this will most likely affect the
rest of the system and lead to every imagineable error.
For Example - I had set up Vista Business on an older IBM T23, evry critical
component was detected, but not the Powermanagement Device , so there wer no
energy settings, no suspend etc.
Too bad for a mobile PC.. Well As IBM / Lenovo has decided that this
rock-solid piece of hardware is Not Vista-capable ( it is.. it has only no
Aero GPU ) there were no drivers for vista..
Figuring out the mess I tried the latest XP drivers and voila!
One Reboot. All was good and in shape. I learned to love how fast sleep and
suspend - switches are ( a major improvement over XP, to me !)
Also notice that Vista HomeBasic has only limited Laptopsupport ( mobility
center / network-projector ).
So.. tell us a bit more and have a look in DeviceManager for any issues that
perhaps it is complaining..
