Hello Forum,

I have some frustration that I want to get out of my system. I decided that
maybe it needed something mechanically done to it, which was beyond me. It
was acting extremely slow, so I did everything from clean disk to defrag to
delete cookies. So thats why I took it to a computer shop. They charge me
$32.10 for repair. I told him about error messages, will it STILL ACTS UP.

One of the error messages that I wanted him to fix was as follows: (Blue
Screen)

"A problem has been detected and windows is going to shut down to prevent
damage to your computer. Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a
driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with
the manufacture for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with
your hardware vendor for any Bios updates. Disable Bios memory options such
as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable
componets, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup
Options, then select safe mode.

Tech Info: ***Stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x8054B4E9, 0xf0cA8BA0,
0x00000000)

Beginning dump of Physical Memory
Physical Memory dump Complete

As you see its frustrating for me, if anyone can give me some advice on this
subject, I would appreciate it. Thanks!!

Sincerely, Tim

Google for 0x0000008E you will find >82,000 items regarding this message,
some of them may hold the answer to your machines problem.

Tim:

That's a bit drastic. Try using Google and put in "stop 8E". There are
loads of hits on this. The majority of them have to do with file
transfers to/from a USB device (but not all). Check all the results and
see if one (or more) of them fit your problem.

Hi GP,

Thanks for responding, you're right its drastic, but I've been frustrated. I
give an idea to a technician and he doesn't want to follow up on it. He wants
to say it has something to do with my CA antivirus program causing the
trouble. I have not installed any programs, or hardware of any sort. I don't
do videos or music on it.

I feel it has something to do with my (BSOD) bad ram or hardware from what I
have been reading on the forums.

Thanks for responding and your advice.

Sincerely, Tim

Does the blue screen error appear during or after boot?

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on the
My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports please.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Hope this helps.
