My Laptop Goes On Standby when in use

While I`m using my laptop, suddenly it will go on standby and shut
off. This is annoying and what causes this? My system is Processor
1600MHz, RAM1.00 GB, windows xp.

The settings in Start-Control Panel-power Options cause this....
 
What do you mean standby? Does all power shut off? If so that is not

Suddenly it will say "preparing to go on standby", then it will shut
off. Can this problem be corrected?

yes. as in my reply - Start-Control panel-Power Options-Alarms.
 
Are you running on battery at the time? Low battery indication?
What do you mean standby? Does all power shut off? If so that is not

Do you have enough space underneath for proper cooling?

No I`m running on electrical power.
