HI,

I have two machines at home. one is desktop, the other is laptop .

I had a D-Link hub connected both .

but recently, every time I used my laptop , cannot get correct IP and
DNS info.. I had to power off and power on the hub again , then my
laptop get IP and DNS info.. I could access internet..

don't know what caused it.

At first, I think might because I used laptop at work, so I use
ipconfig /release to release the IP and DNS info.. and try to
ipconfig /renew to get new IP.. but did not work..

I had to reboot hub every day to get internet acces for my laptop.

want to ask expert here.. very appreciated if any suggestion on it.

Your hub is probably not just a hub but it includes a DHCP server. This
server may be flawed. To get around the problem, set your PC's IP Address,
Default Gateway and DNS Server addresses manually.

HI, Thanks for quick response..

I'm sorry, it's not hub.. it is router...

and laptop is the one I used to work in office.. so I cannot set fix
IP address..

is there any other way to go around the problem ?

Thanks.

This is really an issue for the network/server administrator at your office
to resolve - unless you wish to try or buy a replacement router.

I suggested in my previous reply that you should use a fixed IP address for
your laptop. You then replied that you cannot do this because it is a work
laptop. My response is: If it is a work laptop then it is the responsibility
of your network administrator to make the appropriate adjustment so that the
laptop can be used in the office and at home, even if it uses a fixed IP
address. He will know how to resolve this issue.

Well, as I said before, your router might have failed after working
flawlessly for more than a year. These things do happen! The method I
suggested might have allowed you to walk around the problem without
replacing it.
