My .jpg files were lost during upgrade!

I just recently upgraded from Windows ME to XP, and
during the upgrade (I used the Windows XP Professional
upgrade software), some of my .jpg files were lost!
Previously, in Windows ME, I had them stored in the "My
pictures" as well as the "My download files" folders, and
the odd thing is, is that not ALL of my files are
missing; I can find probably about 5% of the files that I
previously had. I've tried doing a full c:/ drive search,
and although it found like 16,000 some-odd .jpg files, it
didn't find any of the ones I am looking for! I'm very
confused as to why only some of the files are missing,
and some aren't. Is there a way I can even find these
files, or are they gone forever? Thanks for your help!

Christina,

In XP, choose advanced Search Options to look for hidden files also.

Also, some .JPG files are actually labeled .JPEG

Lastly, look for the first name of one lost file. Pick one you remember the
name for that you don't find.
Type it in the search field like this
name*.*

See what comes up.

Lastly, if you still can't find them and this is a terrible thing, consider
asking a friend who is a computer expert to help or take it to a local shop
and pay them a few bucks to search around.

XP should never delete files, but if you had a weird program installed, one
that was resizing the harddrive or something, then this could happen.
