All of a sudden, something went terribly wrong with our Internet Explorer. No
clue how or when, just when I went to bed it was working, when I woke up the
next day it wasn't. I click on the E and instead of opening a window, the
whole computer freezes up, even the mouse, for about 2-3 minutes, and then
this message pops up:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime error! Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way. Please contact the applications support team for more information.

What on earth is that supposed to mean?

Try uninstalling the Google Toolbar via Control Panel -> Add/Remove
programs.

When all else fails, HijackThis
v1.99.1(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to
use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware.
