The data file is the old format - and that gives me problems when
transferring it to another computer. How do I change the format? And I seem
to have 3 different PS files - why? Outlook 2003 on a XP machine.

Why? it shouldn't. That said, it's a IMAP PST. You don't need to move it.
Since it's just a reflection of what's on the IMAP server, just create the
IMAP account on the other machine and you 'll see all the same messages.

IMAP PSTs are always ANSI-format. There's no way to change them.
And I seem to have 3 different PS files - why? Outlook 2003 on a XP
machine.

If you have multiple PSTs and you know you're not using them in Outlook, try
removing htem from File>Data File Management. If that doesn't work, try
removing them in Control Panel's Mail applet. If that doesn't work, you
need a new mail profile.

Do you mean that IMAP files are alway Personal Folders (97-02) and not the
newer Personal Folders type? The error message I get when I try to move the
..pst file to another computer talks about Unicode - and I guess the old
(97-02) versions is different from the new one that way...

That's exactly what I mean.

There's absolutely no reason to move an IMAP PST. In fact, I daresay the
other Outlook won't be able to make use of another Outlook's IMAP PST.
